Nursing Homes – Jobs on the Rise



In this down economy it is always great to hear of jobs that our on the rise and in demand. One of the fastest growing fields (thanks to the Baby Boomers) is nursing home jobs. Nursing homes have evolved in the last twenty years developing different types of homes in order to individualize care. There is a place for the active, physically disable, those who are mentally not well, and those who need a moderate amount of daily care. When most people walk into a nursing home they see patients, and some need severe help, while others need very little help. The owner of the nursing home does not necessarily see patients but people who are clients. They are paying good money for a service and if they are not getting what they pay for they will take their money somewhere else. Between 1945 and 1964 there were over seventy-six million American children born who are all know at retirement age. The amount of care needed in nursing homes have already doubled or even triple in some areas. In today’s nursing home it important to incorporate all of the facilities needed to help give patients the best care possible. Many jobs have also been created to help maintain the client’s ability to keep an active normal life while the other workers in the home help to keep the clients healthy and clean.

Many seniors are still very active and that has changed the kind of nursing homes jobs that are required for quality, modern care. Many people do not consider this to even be a nursing home job since they are on-site at retirement communities and work with people who need little nursing aid. On-site nurse works with seniors who need very little physical or mental care. They help distribute medication and take care of routine medical needs. It is also nice for seniors who are still active to have somebody on-site in case of an emergency or general questions. Continuing Care Retirement Community nursing jobs have a little more case load and provide more one on one with patients who are generally active and capable of maintaining a small apartment.

Hospital patients who need occupational therapy specialists are discharged from the hospital and placed in a rehabilitation facility where the patient can receive the needed care but also work on recovering. In this area you will see not only therapist but nurse aids, floor nurse, charge nurses, nursing assistants, as well as your general maintenance staff. Traditional nursing homes jobs need the same support as rehabilitation facilities but also they need people who can do hands on nursing. These clients will generally need help with showering, dressing, eating, and changing once they have soiled themselves. Nursing homes jobs can be extremely rewarding and many have very flexible hours with great pay. The Baby Boomer population is huge and with a surplus of people needing different forms of care the demand for those jobs increases. Research they type of facility you would be the most comfortable in and the pay scale for each of the jobs. Many states offer free training to become an aid in a nursing home and do not require very much education. This is one of the few job markets that has a surplus of jobs readily available and it may just be a great fit for you as well!
